WASHINGTON: A reality TV program in which foreigners vie for U.S. citizenship is being considered by the US Department of Homeland Security.
Authorities claim that while they are considering the proposal, they have not yet reached a conclusion. One competitor would be eliminated in each episode of the proposed show, which would include challenges designed to test candidates’ knowledge and abilities.
Amid ongoing changes in immigration policy, the initiative has generated controversy.
When asked about the alleged concept, DHS issued a statement stating that “each proposal undergoes a thorough vetting process prior to denial or approval” and that the pitch “has not received approval or rejection by staff.”
