WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump has set a new course for American foreign policy in the Middle East.
During his tour to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, he promised to turn away from years of US military activity and focus instead on negotiating deals.
“We should no longer dictate to the region how to live,” he declared, praising what he called a “modern miracle the Arabian way.”
Trump, in stark contrast to his predecessors, attacked what he described as the “neo-cons” who were behind the brutal US military actions in the Middle East and elsewhere.
His first Gulf destination was Riyadh, where Trump spoke to an investment gathering. “In the end, the so-called nation builders wrecked far more nations than they built,” he said.
