As he prepares to rejoin the national team for the summer home series, England’s Test captain Ben Stokes has disclosed that he abstained from alcohol earlier this year in an effort to hasten his recuperation from a hamstring injury.
In a recent podcast, the 33-year-old all-rounder said that he has been sober since January after undergoing surgery for an injury he got during the third Test match against New Zealand in December.
In an interview with Spencer Matthews, the host of The Untapped podcast, Stokes discussed the physical toll that injuries had taken on him and implied that his choice to give up alcohol was a part of a larger attempt to extend his cricket career.
