Billionaire Elon Musk announced on Tuesday that he was stepping back from using his wealth for political purposes, claiming that his Tesla electric vehicle business was thriving in spite of criticism for his backing of US President Donald Trump.
“In terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future,” Musk said via video link from Austin, Texas, at Bloomberg’s Qatar Economic Forum in Doha.
The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, contributed hundreds of millions of dollars to Trump’s campaign, raising concerns in Washington about whether his generosity would continue.
“I will engage in political spending in the future if I find a justification for it. In the frequently heated interview, he stated, “At this time, I don’t see a reason.”
