Washington sent encouraging hints that the two superpowers may stop a sour trade war that is hurting the world economy as the United States and China convened for a second day of negotiations in London on Tuesday.
According to US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, the talks were “going well,” and he told Bloomberg Television that he anticipated the talks to run “all day” on Tuesday.
As investors awaited the conclusion of the negotiations aimed at solidifying a tenuous truce in the trade war, global stock markets were quiet on Tuesday.
“The lack of positive headlines weighed on stocks and the dollar,” according to Kathleen Brooks, research director at the XTB trading platform, as negotiations continued.
