The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a division of The Economist, has published its 2025 Global Liveability Index, which ranks Karachi as the fourth worst city to live in.
The Pakistani city ranked 170th out of 173 cities, higher than only Damascus (Syria), Tripoli (Libya), and Dhaka (Bangladesh).
Cities are ranked annually by the EIU using more than 30 variables in five major areas: infrastructure, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and stability.
The top cities on the index were Copenhagen, Vienna, Zurich, Melbourne, and Geneva. Two foiled terrorist assaults, one targeting a train station and the other a Taylor Swift concert, caused Vienna, which was recognized as the most stable city the previous year, to fall to second place.
