Despite five of its batsmen reaching hundreds, India’s historic defeat at Headingley created an unpleasant record.
India lost a match in which five of its batsmen hit hundreds, making them the first side in Test history to do so. In the past, the 1928 Melbourne Test match between Australia and England was the only time a side had lost with four hundreds.

At Headingley, England was able to successfully pursue this goal. It was the second-largest chase ever by any side against India and their second-highest in Test cricket. The highest is still England’s 2022 Edgbaston 378-run chase against India.
