According to an early assessment by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), the recent US military strikes on three of Iran’s nuclear sites are thought to have only set back Iran’s nuclear program by a few months and did not totally destroy its essential components.
President Donald Trump’s repeated assertions that the strikes had “completely obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities are called into question by the confidential assessment, which is based on a thorough battle damage analysis from US Central Command. Most of the centrifuges are still in place, and a large portion of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile survived the strike, according to seven people familiar with the report who spoke to CNN.
CNN said that prior to the strikes, Iranian officials seemed to have removed important uranium materials from the targeted locations.
