In front of many people who camped outside the gate on Tuesday night, co-founder Sir Michael Eavis and his daughter Emily Eavis, who currently oversees the festival, led the countdown just before 8:00 BST.
In the days before the major festival program begins on Friday, around 200,000 people are expected to arrive at the location.
Ms. Eavis told the BBC just before the gates opened, “This year has been such a build-up, it’s been an amazing amount of excitement.”
Emily is seen being questioned by a BBC News reporter while sporting a white shirt and her blond hair pulled back. She is surrounded by numerous other journalists. As people enter Worthy Farm’s gates, crowds can be seen in the background.
