Warwickshire County Council’s newly elected leader has quit, putting his 18-year-old deputy in command.
Rob Howard, a councillor for Reform UK, issued a brief statement expressing his “much regret” over the decision.
After Reform achieved historic victories in the May local elections, becoming the largest party in Warwickshire and forming a minority government, Howard was elected.
The retiring leader explained his decision by saying, “The role of leader is an extremely demanding role and regretfully my health challenges now prevent me from carrying out the role to the level and standard that I would wish.”
