At least seven people have died and numerous others have been injured as a result of terrible situations that have occurred in several Punjabi cities during a recent bout of monsoon rains.
In low-lying areas, flash flooding, lightning strikes, and roof collapses were the main causes of fatalities. In Lahore, where the rains were heavy but mostly non-lethal, no casualties were reported.
A rainwater drain in Jhelum’s Bada Gawah neighborhood spilled during the downpour. Floodwaters struck a loader vehicle, which lost control and overturned. A rickshaw carrying two passengers was washed away and drowned. Six more people were rescued from the event by rescue crews.
