Thitipas Choddaechachainun works in a large warehouse next to a busy highway in eastern Thailand, sorting through piles of scrap metal, circuit boards, and outdated computer keyboards.
She and her team of inspectors from Thailand’s industry ministry collect samples of the garbage and meticulously package it up to be brought away for study, much like forensic experts do.
“A lot of this is clearly electronic waste and the company that owns this site doesn’t have a licence to process it,” she says. “This is a growing problem in Thailand.”
The leader of a ministry task force attempting to address Thailand’s e-waste issue is Ms. Choddaechachainun.
