Reports that President Vladimir Putin urged his Iranian partner to agree to a “zero enrichment” deal on its nuclear program were defined as “defamation” by Russia’s foreign affairs ministry on Sunday.
According to three unnamed people with knowledge of the situation, US news outlet Axios said on Saturday that Putin has “encouraged” Iran to agree to a deal with the US that would stop the Islamic Republic from enriching uranium.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Sunday that the piece “seems to be a new political defamation campaign aimed at exacerbating tensions around Iran’s nuclear program.”
“We have consistently and repeatedly emphasized the need to use only political and diplomatic tools to resolve the problem around Iran’s nuclear program.
