Separatist rebels in northeastern India claimed that three of the group’s leaders were killed on Sunday when the Indian army conducted cross-border drone attacks on the group’s camps in neighboring Myanmar.
Certain rebel organizations in northeastern India maintain a presence in Myanmar due to their ethnic, linguistic, and cultural ties to minorities there.
The separatist organization alleged in a series of statements that a drone attack near the border in Myanmar killed a prominent leader of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and injured 19 others.
Following the strikes, the ULFA reported that “two more senior commanders were killed” and that “a number of other members and civilians were also wounded.”
The strikes have not yet been confirmed by Indian authorities.
