According to Diabetologist Professor Abdul Basit, about 33 million individuals in Pakistan have diabetes, and between 30 and 40 percent of them experience emotional stress.
Dr. Abdul Basit told reporters at Indus Hospital that diabetes patients are two to three times more likely to experience depression than the general population.
He also emphasized Pakistan’s acute need of mental health specialists.
Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, President of Indus Hospital and Health Network, emphasized during the same session that the organization is dedicated to raising public awareness through health-based research in addition to offering free, high-quality treatment.
