After a recent spike in diesel costs, Pakistan Railways announced another tariff increase for both passenger and freight trains on Thursday. This is the second increase in as many weeks.
A notification released on Wednesday states that coal transportation fees have increased by 3%, while passenger and freight rates have climbed by 2%.
While the increased tariffs for freight services will take effect on July 21, the updated fares for passenger trains will take effect on July 18.
According to officials, the increased price of fuel, a vital operational component for the railroads, was the reason for the fare hike.
