ISLAMABAD: For failing to submit a report in the Dr. Aafia Siddiqui case, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other federal cabinet members have received a contempt notice from the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan declared, “I am issuing a contempt of court notice to every member of the federal cabinet,” at a hearing on the plea submitted by Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui, Dr. Aafia’s sister, concerning the former’s health and repatriation from the United States prison.
Justice Ishaq issued a brief directive stating that the case’s next hearing will take place on the first working day following the court holidays.
After receiving an 86-year sentence, Pakistani neuroscientist Dr. Aafia has been imprisoned in the United States for more than 14 years.
