LAHORE: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore on Tuesday granted the release of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in two May 9 cases after he was acquitted the day before.
In response to his decision, ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gill ordered the Kot Lakhpat Jail administration to free Qureshi if he was not needed in any other case.
After hearing arguments from both parties late last week, the court reserved its ruling, which it made public on Monday.
However, after determining that they were complicit in the May 9 riots, the court sentenced Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, former Punjab governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema, and a number of other individuals to ten years in prison.
