CHENGDU: According to organizers, Italian orienteering competitor Mattia Debertolis passed away on Tuesday after being discovered unconscious during competition at the World Games in Chengdu, China.
According to a joint statement from the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) and World Games organizers, the 29-year-old was found unconscious during an orienteering event on August 8 and passed away four days later.
Every four years, a multisport competition for sports not covered by the Olympics is called the World Games.
“Despite receiving immediate expert medical care at one of China’s leading medical institutions, he passed away,” claimed the statement.
Details regarding the cause of death were not included.
