ISLAMABAD Positively, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) said that it has begun paying back thousands of people who had been defrauded in one of the worst financial scams in Pakistan, calling the effort a historic recovery.
The NAB Rawalpindi chapter has begun paying out Rs3.7 billion to 17,500 victims of a company-run Ponzi scheme that enticed investors with promises of a 7% monthly return, the anti-corruption advocate said in an official statement on Thursday.
Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed presided over a ceremony at NAB headquarters in Islamabad to announce the payout.
