A 150-year-old banyan tree in Karachi’s Qasr-e-Naz has been restored under the direction of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah after it fell over owing to intense rain and wind.
According to a statement sent by his office on Saturday, the chief minister has directed the secretary of forests to start restoration work right now. The resuscitation of the tree will be supervised by Chief Conservator Javed Mahar and his staff.
CM Shah added that centuries-old trees are not just cultural legacy and symbols of ancestors but also crucial for maintaining the environment.
He added that the banyan tree is also referred to as the “Tree of Life” and that “every plant has immense importance in the era of climate change.”
