Germany’s government is concerned about the future of the military alliance that was established following the end of the Cold War due to the former president Donald Trump’s views on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato).
German officials are reportedly concerned about what would happen if the US withdrew from the alliance following Donald Trump’s election to the presidency, according to a New York Times story.
Despite his legal issues, the 77-year-old is contesting for president once again.
Since he just prevailed in both the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries, he has secured the party’s nomination ahead of his rivals for the Republican presidential candidate.
Last month, the former president claimed, “We’re paying for Nato, and we don’t get so much out of it,” while speaking to his supporters in Nevada.
“And you know—I hate to tell you this about NATO—if we ever needed their help, let’s say we were attacked, I don’t think they’d be there,” Trump had stated. I’m familiar with the folks.
The business tycoon has always decried NATO’s support of the United States, calling it outdated in 2017.
