ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) ruled Thursday that controversial Supreme Court Justice (retd) Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi was guilty of misconduct, stating that he should have been removed prior to his departure.
In a brief statement issued on Thursday, the top judicial authority stated that the ex-judge, who was facing multiple claims, was guilty of misconduct and “should have been removed from the office of Judge”.
Justice (retd) Naqvi resigned unexpectedly in February this year due to misbehavior allegations, and Justice (retd) Ijazul Ahsan followed suit the next day, raising concerns about their abrupt departure.
In his resignation letter, the former judge stated: “[…] in the circumstances that are public knowledge and, to some extent, public record, it is no longer possible for me to continue to serve as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.” Considerations of due process also need this.”
The SJC withheld its decision on Friday after concluding the misconduct proceedings against its former judge, Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi.
