According to a new UN Development Programme (UNDP) report, Pakistan’s standing on the 2022-23 Human Development Index (HDI) improved somewhat, placing it 161st out of 191 countries.
The HDI is a collection of data that assess per capita income, educational attainment, and life expectancy.
Pakistan was ranked 164th in the most recent HDI rating (2021/22), despite a global decline in development caused by the COVID-19 epidemic.
The first UNDP Human Development Report (HDR) was developed and released in 1990, under the direction of the late Dr. Mahbubul Haq, a former Pakistani finance minister.
Despite record-high worldwide human development scores in 2023, the latest report, ‘Breaking the Gridlock’, indicated rising discrepancies between the haves and the have-nots.
