Advocates for children transported to Canada throughout the 19th and 20th centuries have submitted a petition to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau requesting an apology for the abuse they endured.
Protesters claim that the decline of his regime “compounds the historical injustice”.
Between 1869 and 1948, approximately 115,000 children—also known as “British Home Children”—were deported from the United Kingdom to Canada.
They were frequently mistreated and abused since they were employed as inexpensive labor on fields or as domestic slaves.
Petitioners asked Canada to extend their formal apologies to the UK and Australia for their roles in the trafficking of British children into deplorable conditions abroad.
