Since Ohtani’s 2018 MLB debut, Ippei Mizuhara has been at the Japanese baseball sensation’s side. However, Mizuhara is accused of taking money from the player’s bank account to settle gambling debts.
Ohtani’s attorneys informed the Los Angeles Times that Mr. Mizuhara wagered with a purportedly illicit bookmaker who is presently the subject of a federal probe.
According to ESPN, at least $4.5 million (£3.5 million) had been moved from Ohtani’s account to a gambling establishment in Southern California.
Mr. Mizuhara lost his job as a result of reporters questioning him about the wire transfers after he provided his account in an interview with the US sports network on Tuesday night.
“Obviously, this is all my fault—everything I’ve done,” he stated to the news. “I’m ready to face all the consequences.”
He said that he would only ever wager on college football, the NBA, the NFL, and international soccer.
