On Friday, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Information Secretary Faisal Karim Kundi stated that the opposition parties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will approach the competent court and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to convene the provincial parliament session.
The development comes after province Food Minister Zahir Shah Toru announced that the KP Assembly session will not take place today due to KP Governor Haji Ghulam Ali’s “illegal step” in summoning a session.
“The governor committed an illegal act by sending a letter summoning the assembly session. In this regard, we requested the opinion of the law department, but we have yet to receive a response,” Toru stated.
He stated that the governor should not become a member of the opposition, and that Governor Ali should quit his job.
During a press conference in Islamabad today, Kundi stated that his party had submitted a letter to the speaker of the KP Assembly, following which the governor sought a session.
“They are worried about reserved seats being given to the opposition,” he said.
“We request that the KP Assembly speaker administer oaths to successful candidates on reserved seats,” said the PPP leader, adding that the parties should express their concerns over the elections in appropriate places.
