Top military officials were killed in the airstrikes, which targeted the Iranian consulate next to the embassy building in the Mezzeh district of Damascus. Among them were Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and his deputy General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, both renowned commanders of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
For the horrific deed, Ayatollah Khamenei denounced the “usurping and despicable” Zionist dictatorship and said that Iran’s valiant men will not allow such atrocities to go unpunished. “Our brave men will exact their revenge on this evil regime.” By God’s will, we will make them rue this crime and others,” the Supreme Leader said in a statement released soon after the airstrikes.
Iran is grieving at the loss of these illustrious military leaders, and Ayatollah Khamenei has expressed his condolences and asked for divine mercy for the deceased’ families.
Declaring that the Israeli bombings are a breach of international agreements and duties, Iranian leaders have vowed to respond forcefully. Ayatollah Khamenei vowed, “We will make them regretful about the crime and similar acts,” demonstrating Iran’s commitment to pursuing justice for the slain soldiers.
The ongoing battle between Iran and Israel has taken a deadly turn with the escalation. Israel has been targeting Iranian military officers in Syria and Lebanon, where Iran backs militant groups that are hostile to Israel.
