In a family court case, a mother and father were at odds about their son’s care. The woman accused the father of domestic violence and engaging in coercive and controlling behavior. Sir Jonathan Cohen was scheduled to hear this case.
The lady, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, also claims that other males have sexually attacked and raped her. She is appealing the court’s decision to assign a male psychologist to evaluate the family.
She requested that Sir Jonathan withdraw from her case on the grounds that the judge’s membership in the Garrick Club would cause her to feel “prejudiced” and prevent her from receiving a “fair hearing”.
The father at issue in this instance was also a “regular visitor” to the club, thus another High Court judge has now determined that Sir Jonathan should not preside over the proceedings.
