Several senior officers, including Major General Aharon Haliva, claimed they were unable to foresee or stop the worst attack in the nation’s history.
Since the attack, he is the first high-ranking IDF official to resign.
He said that his intelligence division “did not live up to the task we were entrusted with” in his letter of resignation.
38-year IDF veteran Major General Haliva continued, saying, “I’ve carried that dark day with me ever since, day after day, night after night. I shall always be burdened by the terrible suffering caused by the war.”
Israel was caught off guard when Hamas rushed the Gaza border and rampaged through Israeli settlements, military posts, and a music festival. Reportedly, lower-level intelligence officials had information that the group was planning an attack.
