As the torrential rains continue, the Kenyan government has ordered residents living close to 178 dams and reservoirs to leave.
The water bodies “have filled up or are nearly filled up and may spill over at any time, posing a high risk to persons living in their neighborhood,” the interior ministry warned.
It gave individuals who lived close by a 24-hour period starting at 18:30 local time on Thursday to evacuate, as did those who were inside a 30-meter (98-foot) wetland corridor of the Nairobi River.
In Kenya and Tanzania, the recent torrential rains have resulted in serious flooding and landslides.
The most recent government figures indicate that since March, about 188 individuals have perished in Kenya and another 90 are still missing. There have been 155 more deaths in Tanzania.
