After being discovered, Diego Maradona’s “stolen” Golden Ball trophy—which he received for winning the best player award in the 1986 World Cup—will be put up for auction in France on June 6.
The object has surfaced again, according to the Aguttes auction house, which predicted that it will fetch “millions” at auction on Tuesday.
The honor was given Diego Maradona, who passed away in 2020, following Argentina’s World Cup triumph in Mexico.
According to sport expert Francois Thierry of the Aguttes auction house, “there are a lot of stories and legends, like it was stolen by the mafia to make gold,” he told Sport. “We made all the required investigations and reported the matter to the police.
The ball has been with us for approximately a year. We investigated a great deal.
