The East Cambridgeshire gold torc and a gold bracelet were taken during an early-morning break-in on Tuesday, according to the Ely Museum in Cambridgeshire.
The museum describes it as its “most prized object” on its website.
“We are devastated by the loss to the museum and to the local heritage of the region,” Elie Hughes, the curator of the museum, commented on news.
“It is a tremendous setback following the community’s amazing assistance in obtaining the Torc in 2017.”
It is an irreplaceable culturally significant object. Finding the stolen items with the police is now our top priority.”
