Mansoor Usman Awan, the Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP), stated in a video message on Tuesday that there is a “perception being given as if the relationship between the court and the executive is deteriorating.”
In a letter to Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court, Justice Sattar allegedly claimed that he had “received messages on behalf of top officials in the security establishment asking me to back off from extensive scrutiny of the existence and mode of surveillance” in relation to the audio leaks case. This led to his announcement.
over the judge’s letter, the AGP stated that given the security situation Pakistan has been in for the past few years, contact between state institutions over “sensitive matters is imperative.”
