The Justice Committee responded after Mr Garland informed President Joe Biden that he was not required to reveal audio of himself recorded by investigators.
The tape was taken from interviews done during an investigation into the president’s handling of secret documents.
The findings brought Mr. Biden’s recollection and age into doubt.
Mr Garland decided that the recording is protected by executive privilege, which allows US presidents to keep certain information private.
Another House committee gathered on Thursday night to discuss authorizing a contempt motion, which would then be referred to the full house for a vote.
A 345-page study was released.
