Rescuers discovered the chopper’s burnt remains on Monday morning, more than 12 hours after it crashed in terrible weather.
“President Raisi, the foreign minister, and all of the passengers in the helicopter were killed in the crash,” a senior Iranian source told Reuters.
According to state television, it collided with a mountain; no official cause has been determined, however there was dense fog in the vicinity.
“President Raisi’s helicopter was completely burned in the crash… unfortunately, all passengers are feared dead,” a source told Reuters.
Drone footage appeared to show the helicopter’s tail and dispersed debris.
The remote location and fog made the search difficult for military and civilian organizations.
