Cornel West, an unaffiliated presidential contender, joined a group of demonstrators picketing in front of Wells Fargo Bank in downtown Washington, D.C., on Tuesday afternoon, supporting their demand for reparations.
West, who was previously running under the People’s Party banner before deciding to run as an independent, spoke with News after stopping by to express his support for the demonstrators.
West’s engagement with the assembled activists indicated that he attended the demonstration on a tight deadline, as he planned to drive to Harlem, New York, for another event in the afternoon.
West saw restitution as an essential component of his lifelong “quest for truth and justice.”
