“It felt like my family was vulnerable, and I needed to do something to protect them,” he recalls.
“There was a sense of responsibility to deal with all the things tech-related for my family.”
As part of his efforts, Mr Hoefnagels, who lives in Ontario, Canada, used the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT to send the fraudulent or “phishing” emails his grandmother had received.
He was curious to see if it would identify them as fraudulent, and it did so immediately.
This sparked an idea that grew into a business called Catch. The AI system has been trained.
