Just a few days after President Joe Biden increased taxes on EV imports from China by four times, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has stated that he is against US tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs).
“Neither Tesla nor I requested these tariffs,” the multibillionaire said via conferencing at a technology conference in Paris.
The remarks made by Mr. Musk contradict his January threat, which stated that if trade restrictions were removed, Chinese automakers would “demolish” their international rivals.
The White House announced further steps last week, claiming they were a reaction to unfair policies and meant to save US jobs. Among the measures was a 100% tariff on Chinese electric vehicles.
