About a third of the man’s torso was burned in the Saturday afternoon event in lower Manhattan when his clothes caught fire.
According to authorities, the suspect was arrested, and the 23-year-old was being treated in a hospital.
The man told the New York Post that he slapped himself to put out the flames and protected his fiancee and cousin from the flaming fluids.
He claimed that the assailant “made fire and threw it all” while holding a cup.
A short while later, the 49-year-old suspect was taken into custody when police tracked him.
