Today, Tuesday, is Youm-e-Takbeer, marking the 26th anniversary of the successful nuclear tests carried out by Pakistan in the Chaghai hills. The nation is commemorating this day with great enthusiasm and passion.
Following the successful nuclear tests, Pakistan became the first nation in the Islamic world and the seventh nation in the world to possess nuclear weapons.
Pakistan’s determination to protect its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity as well as its aim to maintain the strategic balance in South Asia were both made plain by the country’s nuclear tests.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Acting President Yusuf Raza Gilani, and heads of the services congratulated the country on Youm-e-Takbeer.
Day represents collective effort of national power: Prime Minister Shehbaz congratulated the Pakistani people, stating that it represents the combined effort of all elements of national power, surmounting an apparently insurmountable obstacle and reaching a significant milestone in the nation’s defense capabilities.
“May 28th represents more than just a day’s celebration; it tells the story of our country’s difficult but extraordinary journey to creating a genuine minimum deterrence,” the prime minister wrote on X.
The prime minister said that on this momentous day in 1998, Nawaz Sharif showed bravery as a leader by turning down threats and inducements to arm Pakistan with nuclear weapons.
