Hull City Council has awarded a £400,000 grant for the construction of a new sports and social arena in the city’s center.
About 44 jobs will be created by the Federation of Sport, located in King William House, Market Place.
The project, which is projected to cost about £2 million, will have a bar, a kitchen, and spaces for gaming and sports.
The structure has undergone “significant regeneration,” according to Garry Taylor, the council’s assistant director of large projects, culture, and place, who also expressed satisfaction at seeing another plan come to pass.
An Argos store once occupied the space; it closed its doors in 2017. More than 1,500 sq m (16,000 sq ft) of floor area will be brought back into use.
Sports simulations and e-sports competitions are expected to be included in the Federation of Sport.
Mr. Taylor went on, “I am delighted that the council has been able to offer additional support. City Center grants have unlocked Hull’s potential.”
