Letby, 34, is on trial at Manchester Crown Court on charges of attempting to kill Child K, a baby girl, on February 17, 2016, when she was a nurse in the neonatal section of the Countess of Chester Hospital.
She entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.
The court heard that after a “very long trial” held last summer, the defendant was found guilty of seven murders and seven attempted murders involving six additional children.
“Those other cases that I have mentioned do have importance in this case because we suggest it’s not because you should convict her because of what she’s done in other cases, but what we are asserting is the relevance that it gives you significant evidence of what her intention was at the time,” prosecutor Nick Johnson KC said to the jury when he opened the case on Wednesday. We claim that she did something or did something to [Child K].
In summary, we are arguing that her history of several murders and attempted murders is a significant piece of evidence that you can, if you’d like, consider when deciding whether or not we have convinced you that she tried to do it.
