Laila March, 25, of Croydon, was unable to board her initial TUI jet at Gatwick Airport on June 7 and had to pay £1,200 for a British Airways ticket instead.
Despite having recently returned from a flight from Morocco the day before, she was informed that her passport was damaged and that she could not board the aircraft.
TUI has since informed Ms. March that the cost of the BA ticket would be reimbursed.
“I find it absolutely absurd that TUI can claim my passport is damaged and refuse to let me board out of concern that I won’t be able to go.”
then for a different airline to accept the same passport without any problems, allowing me to travel to Mexico before passing through passport control,” Ms. March remarked.
“It was a very small mark, almost like a little scratch on the right hand side of the page but you would have to look very carefully to see it – I hadn’t even noticed until they pointed it out.”
