As part of the Finance Bill 2024, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has published a notification imposing higher regulatory charges on a variety of imported items.
The new levies, which vary from 5% to 55%, are intended to reduce imports and support domestic businesses.
Important alterations consist of:
Food Items: Imports of live fish currently have a 10% charge, but imports of frozen fish could have a 35% duty.
- There is a 25% tax on imported milk and cream; curd, butter, and almonds are subject to a 20% charge.
- Imported cherries are subject to a 35% tariff, whereas lychees and apples are subject to a 45% tax. The duty on imported maize is currently 30%.
- Cosmetics and Personal Care: At 55%, the highest duty will be applied to fragrances, makeup, skincare, and hair color products.
- Various soaps and shaving cream are now subject to a 50% tax.
- Clothes and Apparel: Men’s imports of overcoats, caps, jackets, pants, and shorts are subject to a 10% tariff. Women’s imported overcoats, jackets, dresses, skirts, and pants are subject to the same 10% duty. There will be an additional 10% charge on blankets, veils, ties, mufflers, shawls, track suits, and handkerchiefs.
- Imported dates, figs, pineapples, guavas, and mangoes will be subject to a 25% duty, while imports of natural honey would be subject to a 30% duty.
