The Pakistani government has taken new steps to make it easier for pilgrims to cross the Taftan border into Iran, especially in the month of Muharram. This route is used by about 60,000 pilgrims during Muharram and by 50,000 to 60,000 pilgrims throughout the remaining months of the year.
IMPORTANT ADDITIONS INCLUDE: 1. Stationing 1,400 guards along the 630-kilometer Taftan–Quetta route.
- The creation of three rest places by NHA (at Padak) and FC Balochistan (at Nok Kundi and Dalbandin).
- An increase from 14 to 20 FIA immigration counters at the Taftan border, along with three standby counters.
- The installation of shades to shield pilgrims from strong sunlight in waiting rooms.
These improved facilities are now part of the 14-hour trip from Quetta to Taftan. Observers have voiced their contentment with the measures taken by civil administration, Pakistan Army, Balochistan Police, and Levies.
