The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is investigating the possibility of launching a virtual currency to enable millions of Pakistanis residing outside to send money quickly and affordably.
In Karachi, SBP Deputy Governor Salimullah was speaking to the media.
Salimullah underlined that the SBP is presently in the review stage of determining whether Pakistan needs a digital currency.
He informed media representatives that “the possible introduction of a digital currency is part of a broader government effort to enhance remittances and streamline financial transactions.”
According to him, the initiative’s goal is to boost remittances, which are essential to Pakistan’s economy, and the adoption of digital currency is anticipated to have a big impact on this endeavor.
