Results from Bhutan’s electoral board indicate that the liberal People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will form a new government after winning legislative elections. Tshering Tobgay, 58, the leader of the PDP and former prime minister from 2013 to 2018, will take over as premier for an additional five-year term. A day after the tiny Himalayan nation held elections, the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) announced the preliminary results, which showed the PDP winning its fourth free vote since democratic elections started 15 years ago. According to the preliminary results released by the ECB, the PDP secured 30 members in the 47-member National Assembly, while the Bhutan Tendrel Party (BTP) secured the remaining seats.
