An anti-terrorism court in Lahore’s Kot Lakhat Jail on Tuesday found that former foreign minister and PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi and six other defendants in the May 9 case were not guilty. Nine defendants, including prominent PTI figures Dr. Yasmin Rashid and Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, were sentenced to ten years in prison.
Inside Kot Lakhpat Jail, where the trial was being conducted under strict security, the ATC judge declared the verdict.
The case concerned violent riots and burning that broke out on May 9, 2023, after PTI Chairman Imran Khan was arrested, according to court proceedings. Mehmoodur Rasheed, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, and other party members were charged with causing property damage and inciting violence.
