Two specialized travel operators have announced that North Korea will reopen to international tourists in December 2024, following nearly five years of border bans because to COVID-19.
The website of Beijing-based Koryo Tours stated that the company has assurance from its local partner that travel to Samjiyon and maybe other regions of the nation would formally restart in December 2024.
Located close to North Korea’s northern border with China, Samjiyon serves as a gateway city. It is home to Mount Paektu, the birthplace, according to official accounts, of the late supreme leader Kim Jong Il.
Another tour company located in China, KTG Tours, also announced on Facebook that travelers will be able to visit the Samjiyon (Mount Paektu) area in the winter; however, the specific dates are still pending confirmation.
